this just in...TV sucks

So about an hour ago, I was enjoying a nice Friday morning crap at work when I received some very disturbing news.

GAHill sent me a text message saying that the show "Love Monkey" has been cancelled. This is noteworthy for two reasons. One, I forgot to turn my ringer down this morning when I got to work, so two of my co-workers were treated to a very loud "ooh. The mail is here" in Homer Simpson's voice (my text ringer) coming out of stall #3. And second, the show was decent. All 3 episodes had been somewhat formulaic, but the show definitely had promise. I haven't been this devestated since Fox cancelled Skin midway through it's first season. There are apparently no plans to try the show in a new time slot, it's just getting canned.

Another tv sucks of note, is that tonight there is a 2 hour season finale of Arrested Development, which could potentially be a series finale. Set your TiVo's and pour out a little liquor for our favortie tv family, the Bluths.

And as a reminder, 35 million Americans watch American Idol. And there is a bar near my house that has karaoke every night.

Comments:
I've actually found a decent show on AMC of all places. The show is called Hustle and its about a bunch of british con artists who work people over. The series is set in the UK and is really damn good. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Love Monkey was fucking awful. Jesus Gage what the hell is the matter with you?

I watched every episode for some reason. After the last one when they brought John Mayer in for a music video I wanted to kill myself. And his stereotypical TV friends who all had really interesting jobs and provide nothing whatsoever, (puking).

Just an awful show with a charismatic leading actor, that was the problem, I WANTED to like it, and in the right hands it could have been fantastic.

I liked the idea of it, then I saw why CBS is CBS.

You really need to cleanse your palette.

By the way, for those scoring at home, this is the first time Gage and I have ever disagreed on anything in the history of this blog.

Before everyone gets too concerned that Pete and I disagree, let me clarify that I basically agree with his point.

As I said, I thought the first 3 episodes of Love Monkey all left some stuff to be desired, and particularly episodes #2 and #3 were basically the exact same from a plot perspective.

However, the show had a lot of promise. Once I was able to get past the fact that Wayne reminded me of John Mayer, I could just sit back and enjoy the show. Not to mention the cameo appearances rivaled Arliss.

My thesis on the show, it was rough. But it had potential and I would've liked to have seen where they could've taken it.

Wayne is an actual artist, Teddy Geiger. Kid's from upstate NY and the songs on the show are his own. Just thought you should know, GA. Just in case you want to pick up his album when it comes out. I was really getting into this show and the bastards cancel it. It wasn't great and at best borderline good, but I really liked it.

Big Boi...I was watching The Goonies on AMC a week ago or so and saw the previews for Hustle and it looked pretty good so I TIVO'd it. Boy was I let down. I made it through to the first commercial and couldn't watch it anymore because it took too long for the plot to develop. Maybe I caught the worst episode of the season. I'll try it once more, but that's it.

Ed not being on television anymore is as bad of a feeling as your buddy sleeping with your buddy.

I think Love Monkey had great potential, and I am pissed about it being cancelled--I don't care what any of you assholes say. I think it had the opportunity to be a Scrubs meets the music business. I agree that it was fairly lacking, and the friends with fantastic jobs was of course too much. But I am so sick of network TV.

Network television is run by pussies. Period. They say that they're looking for fresher angles, not so formulatic sitcoms, blah blah blah. All because of Lost, Scrubs, Arrested Development (critical acclaim, but of course, pulled), Desperate Housewives (I am only acknowledging--that show is fucking stupid), etc. However, the second they don't pull in 30 million viewers, they pull the plug. Yet "How I Met Your Mother" is still on the air (by the way, the most disappointing show this fall--the concept could have been excellent).

Just when I thought there was a pretty solid lineup of shows for people in our age bracket, they shoot me in the nuts.

CORRECTION: I just noticed that I typed "your buddy sleeping with your buddy."

It was supposed to read "your buddy sleeping with your MOTHER."

With apologies,

The Mngt.
