The Death Of A Blog?

Holy shit dudes--where's everyone at? Yikes.

Quick hits:

--Sounds like Studio 60 is done for. What a bummer. Yes it is pretentious, yes it can be cheesy, yes it makes fun of (basically) my belief system, but...I really enjoyed it. Matthew Perry is hilarious in it, and the rest of the cast is pretty solid. Really too bad.

--Speaking of too bad...the Huskers went in and dropped a giant turd in Oklahoma this week. What a total and complete disappointment. Seriously, Kevin Cosgrove should have taken that LB coaching job for the Vikings. The guy simply cannot adjust during a game. It is embarrassing. It is also embarrassing that Brandon Jackson is clearly dominating the game single-handedly, and our offensive coaching staff stubbornly sticks to the game plan of using all our backs. Look--I understand that you've got to keep guys happy and fresh. But taking Jackson out for entire SERIES of plays is inexcusable. The guy was running like a man possessed, and he only runs (something like) 24 times? I don't mean to be one of those guys that runs around and talks about how I could outcoach guys that have been doing nothing but living and breathing football since they were probably 12 years old, but....

I could have done better than those bums this week!

--The St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. I just puked in my mouth. David Eckstein won the MVP. I just puked all over my computer.

--Always entertaining seeing costumes at parties this time of year...my "Your Mom" costume was apparently not as funny as I thought it was, but I do totally get why a woman would wear a dress. Incredible comfort. npgage, I hope to see a picture posted of the gay boyscout here soon.

That's all I've got for now, homeboys. Anyone feel free to post something sometime.

Roots

I was listening to sports talk radio last night and found out that The Roots were on Leno. I found it funny that I was hearing from a sports talk show and not the blog. GA Hill must be busy with something.

Leftovers...

1. If you don't do so regularly, you should check out Bruce Feldman's college football blog on ESPN.com at least twice a week.

2. I'm almost talking myself into taking the Skers at home, which is apparently what most of Vegas is doing since the line has moved from 7 to 5.5, but Ijust don't think we have the ballers on D. Texas 24 Neb 20

3. The AM drive from Lincoln to Omaha the day after Shearer's wedding will now officially be known as "the Death March."

4. I bought the Hold Steady's "Boys and Girls and America" and it's well above average. Rambling vocals backed by the E Street Band. As far as Springsteen ripoffs this year, it's probably exponentially better than the new Killers CD.

5. The over-under on alcholic beverages by all Heavy Soul posters drank from Thursday through Sunday is probably between 500 and 600. Seriously, you can do the math.

6. I haven't gotten over how much "The Departed" kicks ass. If you haven't seen it yet, you have to.

7. I'm also extremely into "Studio 60", I'm not sure if I'm the only person enjoying this. It would be substantially better without Amanda Peet, however.

8. I'll see you d-bags tomorrow. Hopefully this will only have some similarities to the bachelor party.

2 for 3

2 for 3 really does not sound like a good softball line, but let me tell you 2 for 3 is enough. Last night was the season finally for the Potter Family Softball Team (with special guests Ryan and Laura.) Anyways during the season, I have slowly been moving towards the bottom of the lineup, was it warranted, possibly, I could not tell you the manager and myself never had a sit down meeting to discuss my productivity. Anyways last night was the second straight week that I was the last male batter in the lineup. So top of the third (yes it took three innings for me to bat) I belted a triple with no outs and ended up scoring of a Sac Fly (1 for 1 with 1 run) game tied 1-1. My next at bat top of the 5th runners on 1st and 2nd with two hour, a 1-2 count with no courtesy I still make the decision to fleece the right fielder. . .it was a gutsy decision that resulted in a three run home run (my line 2 for 2, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored) score is now 4 to 2 and your number nine hitter is accountable for all four runs.

We win the game 5-4 on a couple of nice plays by the left fielder (not me) but all I just want to point out the injustice and lack of respect that took place last night in batting me 9th.

As for those of you wondering about my blemish on the box score it was pure selfishness. By this point in the game this team was smart enough to realize I thrive on hitting to right field and shifted on me. So I had a 3-1 count and I am not one to walk so I try pulling one to left, unfortunately I did not get the air needed and ended up with a 6-5 fielders choice (Pete being the runner of choice, sorry buddy.)

It's Official...

...the 2006 Chicago Bears are a team of destiny. Down 20 points in the second half? No problem. Coming back without a offensive touchdown? Blah. Easy.

Tonight's Monday Night Football game was the weirdest football game I have ever seen. Hands down.

That said, the endless Matt Leinert highlights/press conference/USC comeback vs. Notre Dame highlights were more than my stomach could handle. Seriously. I just threw up in my mouth. ESPN just cannot come to grips that Reggie Bush and Matt Leinert do not play for USC anymore, so by God, we're going to show as many highlights in their USC uniforms that possibly can!

Oh well, who gives a shit? I don't. The Bears are 6-0!

Throw that in with Sweet Lou Pinella getting a three-year deal (with a fourth-year option) for the Cubs--not to mention the announcement that payroll will increase 10-15% (which puts it around $110-115 million), plus reports that Sweet Lou is going to push as hard as he can for A-Rod, and it's a pretty good day to be a Chicago sports fan.

You get the feeling that Ditka (God) is smiling down on the Second City today.

30 Rock

Was about as solid as Steve Loaiza on the mound tonight. Seemed like the best parts of the show were Tracy Morgan's shenanigans. Hopefully this show improves quickly, or it could be 6 and out.

Say Hello to my little friend

I just purchased Scarface for the PS2. Ladies and gentlemen, this game is fantastic. If you liked any of the Grand Theft Auto games your gonna love this game. It’s more violent, it has more humor, and the overall plot (so far) is better. The game starts off during the last scene of the movie where Tony Montana is fighting off Sosa’s goons as they invade his property. But unlike the movie, I am Tony Montana and I am very aware of how Tony died in the movie. He was killed by being shot in the back with a shotgun as he over looked his staircase. With me in control the man holding the shotgun didn’t have a chance and this is where the game begins. Instead of just following the movies plot, the game continues from the end of the movie as if Tony Montana never died. Instead his entire empire is taken from him and he must try and regain it back. I’m currently going around selling drugs and buying up property that will help me sell more drugs. All while taking out rival gangs, making contacts with various drug smugglers, and avoiding/bribing/fast talking the police.

I can tell that there was a lot of care put into this game and they tried to hit every detail. They even used real actors and assembled a pretty recognizable cast. They have a lot of the original actors doing the voices for the game plus here is a list of some additional actors who are in the game: James Woods (Casino); Robert Davi (Die Hard); Michael Rapaport (Beautiful Girls, The War at Home); Ice T (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit); Oliver Platt (The Ice Harvest); Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire); Miguel Sandoval (Jurassic Park, Medium); Daniel Dae Kim (Lost); Willa Holland (The O.C.); Roma Maffia (Nip/Tuck); Robert LaSardo (Nip/Tuck); Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives); NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; Cheech Marin (From Dusk ‘Til Dawn); Ricky Gervais (The Office); Michael York (Austin Powers films); Michael Rooker (Slither); Tommy Chong (Cheech & Chong movies); Jason Mewes (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back); Anthony Anderson (Hustle & Flow); Rick Yune (Die Another Day); Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show); Entourage’s Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara; Richard Roundtree (Shaft); Tiny Lister (Next Friday); Bai Ling (Lords of Dogtown); Bam Margera (Viva La Bam); Cree Summer (Drawn Together); rapper N.O.R.E.; Tommy Lee; Cypress Hill’s B. Real and Sen Dog; and Elliott Gould (Ocean’s Eleven & Twelve).

Basically, this is a very cool game and anyone who enjoyed the GTA series will love this game.

Good Tuesday?

So last night I traveled to West for Dinner with my mother and a evening with the misses. It was a nice Monday night, I was able to catch a little football, and a somewhat quality Studio 60, and ended up spending the night. The thing about staying at the ladies is work is on my way home so there is no need to pack a overnight bag. Fast forward to 6 am, I wake up and quickly gather my things and head home for a shower and change of clothes (it is beard season for yours truly so there is no need for a shave.) I arrive at home around 6:30 to see The Rods car present but the Doctors was gone, nothing to be alarmed about the Doctor lately has been working some strange hours and he too has been holding up at the misses. So back to the story I am at home it is 6:30 in the morning and I enter my bedroom for towel and to charge my phones. . .and I vomit.
Turns out everyone good buddy The Man In Black not only found himself a random mistress, they decided to consummate this evening of drinking on my bed. I try to wake up the animal so that I could prepare myself for a day of merchant processing, but the kid was basically dead to the world and she too was not responsive. I yell, tell them to get out and exit the bedroom to shower, hoping that MIB is having a uncomfortable conversation and vacating the bedroom for one of the 3 couches in the house.

Well the migration from my bedroom to a couch did not take place, and at this time for some reason and this is beyond me, but I begin feeling as if I am imposing, on the two trying to find a suitable outfit for that days work. I wish the story was done, I picked out today clothing in the dark, and I dressed in the bathroom. The thing is there were a few thing I needed to get from my room where the light needed to be turned on, so I venture back in to the alcohol stenched room, turn on the light and look for my watch and some papers for work. That is when it happens, the bedroom light seemed to have angered the MIB and he rolled to cover his eyes and he took all the blanets with in.

I used to be a big fan of coffee to wake myself in the morning, but after this morning, I have now found a natural alternative.

NFL Ramblings

Matt Leinart looked really good. Has a rookie QB making his first start ever looked as good as he did? Not only that, but Arizona has a terrible offensive line and no running game. He ended up throwing 2 touchdowns but he should have had 3 but one of his receivers dropped an easy TD pass. And remember he missed a lot of practice due to his holdout and still looked amazing.

Bush also had a good game. He had 161 total yards, was the leading receiver for his team, but more importantly he returned a punt for the game winning touchdown. Anyone who doesn’t think he was the best back drafted this year (which I have been hearing a lot of lately) is insane.

The Bears are good. Really good. As of now they are the Super Bowl favorites in my opinion.

New rule. ESPN cannot run anymore stories on TO until he is the best receiver on his team. Terry Glenn has better numbers in every major receiving statistic other than drops. One other quick note on TO and him being overrated. When Randy Moss left Min. Daunte Culpepper’s QB rating dropped by nearly 40 points. That is not the case for McNabb with TO leaving. Donovan McNabb is currently having the best year of his career despite not having TO or any running game at all. I thought it warranted mentioning.

The Departed debuts today...

...and I think this has potential to be a fantastic flick. So much so that I'm thinking about going to watch it by myself. The Mrs. was upset, until I told her that Jack Nicholson snorts coke off a stripper while engaged in a threesome. Then, inexplicably, she lost interest.

Anyway, my plans for tonight are as follows:

1. Finish my story for The Reader (be sure to visit the advertisers)
2. Eat a big steak
3. Go watch "The Departed" by myself
4. Possibly get a beer afterwards

If anyone wants any part of this, with the exception of finishing my story, shoot me a text.

Richards wins again...

In his ongoing battle with the Grim Reaper, score another point for Keith Richards. Eventually death will catch up with this guy, but that's been the case since about '67.

Come on Cos, You Gigantic Pussy

Iowa State pic time, frankly I am a little nervous. Nothing like giving up 500 yards at home against a team and a coach with his own zip code. I also find it interesting that Nebraska was able to always beat crappy Big 12 teams in the past but now we can't seem to come up with and execute game plans to continue to beat crappy teams. The Nine.....Thoughts

After not being able to watch Lost, b/c I haven't watched Lost, I decided to try out the new serial drama following it. And I know that onlytheyknow....but i would also like to know.

1. Bailey from Party of Five is now a doctor. That is awesome.
2. Joe (correct name?) from Wings is one this show. I'm fascinated that both brothers from Wings have new sitcoms. Fascinating that they both basically fall off the face of the planet for an unknown number of years, and now they are both back.
3. The old president from Boston Legal has an absolutely awesome mustache. See you at the next bachelor party buddy.
4. This show is like a who's who of washed up sitcom actors.
5. It's generally a good show when a Ryan Adams song is involved.

And seriously, what happened in there? I guess only they know.

Thank you Sen. Bill Frist

I don’t know if anyone knows this, or cares, but the government just recently passed a bill that will make online poker illegal for US residents. I disagree with the law, and really disagree with the way it was passed. Our Senate majority leader attached the poker prohibition to the Port Security Act. What does poker have in common with the Port Security Act? Nothing. The Port Security Act is a defense bill designed to booster our nation’s ports. The prohibition was added to this bill as a way of eliminating any debate over the subject of online poker. Poker is a skill game and is not gambling. A large portion of my income comes from poker and now it is going to be taken away without the subject even being debated. I just don’t understand. Why can’t they tax online poker, that’s what the Brits did. Just a very shady, shady deal.

Smoking Ban In Omaha In Effect Today...

...and it seems to not effect the Heavy Soulers too much. The only place that we could think of was the Cresent Moon, a place of heavy patronage by The Deuce and MIB.

They just interviewed the owner of the Cresent Moon on the news tonight, and the owner wasn't too worried about smoking not being allowed anymore there, citing "a very loyal customer base."

Needless to say, I giggled through the entire interview. Yeah, Deuce and MIB are so loyal that they will continue to go to a bar that doesn't allow them to smoke. Yeahhhh.....that's the ticket.

Hangover 1, Heavy Soul Open 0

The first annual Heavy Soul Open was cancelled as no participants made the 10 a.m. tee time. As you might have guessed, things got a bit loose on Saturday night.
