To reiterate . . .

MIB's point. The new Flaming Lips cd is outstanding.

Other cds I've been enjoying this week include:

Cat Power - The Greatest
The Format - Interventions and Lullabies
The Subways - Young for Eternity

And my several month long obsession with Album of The Year by The Good Life continues.

I've also been listening to the Arctic Monkeys again this week, and on my second period of time spent with the cd, I'm still only calling it average. Granted, there are a couple of good songs most notably "A Certain Romance." But also, it's hard to not feel like they are a bit overrated.

Comments:
Of course they're overrated. So are Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Radiohead, Oasis, and everyother band that the British Press claim as the greatest of all time. Just kinda hard to live up to the hype.

Radiohead is underrated, in my opinion. I think they are the cream of just about any rock band that was not producing music before 1990.

They are not one of my favorite bands, however their body of work speaks for itself.

I would also contend that the Strokes are rated about correctly or possibly slightly overrated, which is to say that they are one of the finer rock bands on the planet. I would love to see their live show. Sock replacement would be a must, I would assume.

And I like the Arctic Monkeys, so all of this can be taken at face value.

I don't think the Arctic Monkeys are overrated in the slightest. You have to keep in perspective that they are 19- and 20-years-old. They are just booming with potential (not that their music now is bad).

I don't think that it is fair to compare them to The Strokes--the Monkeys have a groove to their music that puts them above all other "garage band" rock. There's a certain soul to their music--and maybe even funk--that completely separates them from the pack.

I think I am certainly biased because I had the opportunity to see them live. I think that you all would be singing a different tune if you get the chance to see them. They are incredible performers, to go along with great musicians (the lead singer can flat out wail on the guitar).

The Monkeys are going to be around for a long while.

The new Flaming Lips album is great as far as new music goes. However I think it is just par for the Lips, still I like it a lot and if you want to talk about a band that doesn't get enough credit the Lips are in the front of that pack.

Also I am with Gage on The Subways "Young for Eternity", very rocking and very catching.

word verification can suck my ass.
