Racism in Europe
I just watched the shocking piece that Jeremy Schapp did for SportsCenter about racial abuse in Europe at soccer matches. Stadium-wide chants of "monkey" to one of the best goalkeepers in the world...and the guy is on their team! It is completely gut-wrenching to see this type of bigotry out in the open.
So why, again, that Europe is supposed to be this bastion of intellect, progressive, land of everything that is perfect? Europe is on a path that points to many parts to tearing itself apart. Unemployment in Germany, for example, is almost 14%! Rioting, intolerance, and--most importantly--their inability to look themselves in the mirror and change because of their endless arrogance.
I just find it comical that Americans are considered everything that is wrong with the world to many outside this country...yet we took steps to fix shit like they are going through 40 years ago. Is America perfect? Of course not. But after seeing that piece, it reminded me yet again that I am proud to be an American.
