The Blue Who? Wha?

Three posts in one night? Yep! That's right, you lucky so-and-so!

Anyway, this may make me a bad sports fan. Probably not, but may. Here's my question/concern:

What in the hell is a Blue Jacket? And when in the hell did they become an NHL team?

Well, the answer is (apparently) 2000. There's been an NHL team in Columbus called the Blue Jackets for 8 years??

I'm honestly at a loss here. Even after I purchased NHL season preview magazines last year after Pete and I decided that we were going to follow the Oilers last year--a decision that we recanted on after, oh, 3 days--I never knew of any squad that went by the Blue Jackets.

Whatever. I'm probably (or absolutely) am an idiot, but I swear to God I had never heard of this team until I watched SportsCenter tonight. Incredible. I put much of the issue on myself here, but I think it says a lot to where the NHL is these days: I listen to a ton of sports talk radio, and check SI.com and ESPN.com several times a day, and literally have got nothing when it comes to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Nothing! I swear to God, I thought this was a 2008 expansion team.

Other than Pete, am I the only guy that falls in this category?

I'm with you GA. I think at some point I probably did know that they exsisted but in an attempt to filter out unwanted info, my brain just let it slip right on out. I am honestly trying to rack my brain for any memory of this team and there is nothing there.

Congratulations Blue Jackets you are totally irrelevant.

(three posts in one night by GA, and my first response in months. The ol' girl still has some life in 'er)

Believe it or not, i've been two 2 NHL games in my life, and one of them happens to be at a Blue Jackets game about 4 or 5 years ago. I had a customer take me as he was a season ticket holder (apparently they even have loyal fans, weird). Their arena is actually awesome and they have built up a great bar scene around it, really good time.

But to further your point, i've been to one of their games and still had to think for a couple of seconds about who you were talking about...and i definately do not remember that hideous team logo.

They once had a relatively young star named Rick Nash, which made me like them. He was a fat Left Winger.

A "Blue Jacket" is, I believe, in reference to the Union soldiers' garb. But this is coming from someone who is still trying to find a Whalers jersey...Go Hartford!

I have a Whalers Jersey

I had to ask pete the other day if twenty bucks was too much to drop on a whalers hoody. The purchase was justified.

Are you serious? You found a Whalers hoodie and actually questioned whether it was worth $20? That's rigoddamndiculous. You should be okay with spending at least 2.68 times that much for that hoodie.

You are forgetting that I am horribly cheap. I have two hundred ketchup packets from mcdonalds in my fridge.

Awesome. It is amazing how some people come up with cool ideas.

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.
